The holidays are almost here, and it’s the perfect time to get your guest bedroom spruced up to welcome family and friends! Here are some timely tips for your guest bedroom design that are a lot of fun and easy to follow, too!
Create A Stunning Impact
First impressions are very important, and you must try to wow your guests at the very first look they get! Choose some stunning pieces that will make an immediate impact. A gorgeous patchwork quilt could be a statement piece that they will fall in love with or an exquisite floor rug. A lovely piece of wall art will work well, too. If it’s something that you have crafted yourself, it will be a great conversation piece.
Keep The Colour Palette Neutral
While you may like bright colours and a mish-mash of styles, your guests may not. It makes sense to keep the colour and design palette in your guest room as neutral as possible so that your visitors will not feel uncomfortable in their temporary home. It’s important to find a style that is unique, but not so specific that your guests feel out of place or awkward in the room. This is also the reason why most hotels prefer to use pastels or whites in their rooms, as they have to cater to a variety of tastes. However too much of pristine white could get boring, so add your own unique twists to the décor to put your own personal stamp of warmth on it!
Single Bed Or Double Bed?
This is entirely up to you. However, if you are in doubt, twin beds that can be moved up together to make a double would work well for any situation!
Comfort With Functionality
Your guests should be given as much comfort as possible. Functional comforts like a convenient luggage rack next to the wardrobe are a must. The storage space need not be very large but do make sure that there is a small safe for them to keep their valuables. Plenty of space for hanging clothes would be a bonus. A small foldaway ironing table with a handy iron inside the wardrobe would be a thoughtful bonus.
Potted Plants And Flowers
Nothing says ‘Welcome!’ quite as much as a large vase of beautifully arranged flowers, or some potted plants in the room. If you do not have the luxury of cutting fresh flowers from your garden, you can experiment with an arrangement of dried flowers that will look good in any season.
Add Some Special Fragrances!
It’s always a lovely feeling to sleep in a bedroom that smells fabulous! Essential oils like cinnamon, lavender or vanilla in diffusers, or some small fragrance sachets slipped below the pillows should leave your guest room smelling like heaven. Scented candles in different fragrances will also do the trick and will create a warm and welcoming glow when your guests arrive.
Stock Up On Bathroom Essentials
Your guests will want to refresh themselves as soon as they arrive, so do ensure that their bathroom is sparkling clean and fitted with all the essentials; crisp bath towels, hand towels, toothpaste, disposable toothbrushes, soaps and hair care products. Travel-size toiletries are the best option for this room. Guest slippers would also add a lovely touch. Have a hairdryer handy on the countertop as well. Think of all the items that you would like to be able to use if you yourself are a guest, and make them available for your guests.
Charging Station And Bedside Lamps
It’s a given that your guests will need to charge their mobiles, other gadgets and laptops when they stay over. A charging station with convenient travel adaptors would be a good idea to have right next to the bed. Also plan to have a bedside table next to the bed, with a reading lamp so that they can read in bed if they would like to.
Amp Up The Comfort Quotient
Your guests should have a marvellous night’s rest in your bed, so make sure that the mattress is comfortable and the bed linen is the best quality that money can buy! Air conditioners should be working at optimal efficiency, and the lighting should be calm and soothing to provide a restful ambiance. If space is available, add a cosy armchair where they can relax, and a small wall-mounted television set as well. Extra blankets, towels and pillows should also be readily accessible in case they need them. A laundry bin close to the bathroom is also something you should not forget to add.
You should have fun decorating your guest bedroom, as there really are no rules for doing up this space. You can make your own choices of accessories and add your unique personal accents to make this room special for your guests. Do let us know what you think of our ideas in the comments below!
