Collective B designed the shared space of this vast “vertical village” to become a “sustainable village” to meet the needs of the rapidly changing lifestyles of diverse people. Under the concept of “the village with a bustling connection”, the design goal is to provide a sustainable way of life and a shared experience in space by creating natural touchpoints to meet the diverse goals of different households.
To realize the sustainable value in spatial design, we have prioritized the use of environmentally friendly materials under all possible scenarios. As a result, around 80% of furniture and accessories are made from recycled materials, reducing carbon emissions by around 3 tonnes. Additionally, most finishing materials have minimized secondary processing and used naturally decomposed or recyclable materials to reduce industrial waste. To create a sustainable community space, we focused on designing a flexible space where people can initiate various activities. In addition to using environmentally friendly materials, the modular design applied to all furniture and lighting allows for a lasting modification of the space, as it is easy to move and transform according to the desired use.
In a space designed to enjoy such a sustainable lifestyle, episode residents and local neighbors participate in gardening classes and book concerts, contributing to the vitality of the local community. Episode Suyu 838, which debuted on February 24, 2022, achieved nearly 70% occupancy within two months of its opening and is expected to be a huge commercial success, with around 600 cumulative tour bookings.
