East Manufacturing has launched its new Horizon round bottom trailer, saying it was designed with the needs of aggregate, sand and gravel haulers and agricultural load haulers in mind.
The announcement was made at the annual meeting of the Technology & Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Associations in Orlando, Fla., on March 6.
The Horizon maximizes payload by incorporating lighter weight components while providing strength and durability, according to East. The new round bottom design provides a lower center of gravity for greater unloading stability and better cornering.
The round bottom shape also allows the trailer to empty cleaner and faster than traditional square bottom trailers. Additionally, Horizon offers greater payload capacity compared to a traditional half-round trailer.
Horizon’s low profile “provides a sleek and attractive dump platform” and more stability. Like all East Frameless Dump Trailers, the Horizon Round Bottom uses only premium aluminum alloys for the flooring and sidewalls for long life and durability. Premium aluminum floors are constructed with up to 33% higher yield strength than industry standards.
Its base weight is 9,860 pounds without options, liner or tarp system, which is lighter than the East Hybrid dump trailer. It measures 102 inches wide and is available in lengths up to 40 feet long. For weight-conscious operations, its sidewall heights include 52, 56, or 60 inches for a capacity of 43.4, 46.8, and 51 cubic yards, respectively.
East also said the aero-style bulkhead facilitates airflow to help improve fuel efficiency while its large-radius bracing helps distribute loads. The outer niche connects to a lower support system of fixed and gusseted U-shaped channels at critical twist points. Additionally, stress is transmitted to the neutral zones of the sidewalls, virtually eliminating stress cracks, and the externally mounted hoist is easier to maintain.
Horizon’s lightweight/long-lasting top coupler features a replaceable stainless steel saddle receiver assembly bolted into a lightweight aluminum subframe for reduced empty weight and maximum durability. Additionally, the aerodynamically designed fenders protect the trailer from road debris and provide “a well finished look”.
