Starnet Commercial Flooring 2021 Corporate Design Awards

Now in its 23rd year, the competition highlights projects completed by Starnet member contractors in partnership with Starnet-aligned architects, designers and fabricators.

Starnet Commercial Flooring, the world’s largest network of full-service commercial flooring contractors, has unveiled the fifth of several Starnet Design Awards winners for 2021 – the Corporate Design category. Now in its 23rd year, the annual competition honors outstanding projects completed by members in partnership with Starnet-aligned architects, designers and manufacturing partners.

New this year, Starnet will announce Gold category winners monthly, culminating with the announcement of the Grand Prize winner in October 2021.

Office space design helps improve employee retention, recruitment and productivity. It’s not just a depreciated asset, but a strategic tool used for competitive advantages by small businesses and Fortune 500 companies. Each is designed using a variety of flooring materials to meet the ergonomics, acoustics, indoor air quality, durability and ease of cleaning. As the leading experts in contract flooring, the Starnet network of flooring contractors realizes over $1 billion in the segment in the United States and Canada each year.

gold in business

Corporate Gold was awarded to Consolidated Flooring of Chicago for its work on the Komatsu headquarters (shown above). As one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of earthmoving equipment, the brand needed an equally innovative headquarters. Its new offices in Chicago, Illinois celebrate the industry while adding a level of sophistication to the design through simple materials and a neutral color palette. The flooring plays a key role in this design story by providing continuity of color, texture and material across four floors, helping to guide staff and guests throughout the space.

“This is an outstanding business venture,” said Andrea Hanson, Design Awards Judge, AIA, WELL AP, Director, Architect, Certified Interior Designer, Dekker/Perich/Sabatini. “It combines a neutral color palette with smart flooring material choices and an understated yet elegant design aesthetic.” Judge Cecelia Baumann, a senior interior design student at Savannah College of Art and Design, added: “I really liked the contrast between the flooring choices – the mix of hard and soft surfaces made sense for the brand and the industry while contributing to wayfinding and acoustics. ”
