SUR Beverage Company Moves to Menomonee Valley in Milwaukee

A beverage company is moving its operations to the Menomonee Valley in Milwaukee under a proposal that has received Plan Commission approval.

The commission recommended rezoning a vacant industrial building at 913 W. Bruce St. to house ABOUT Natural Health Brands LLC.

SUR plans to move its Shorewood office to the renovated building.

The company, which makes turmeric-infused drinks, would also use space on the first floor of the building for its warehouse, said Qasim Khan, who co-founded SUR with his brother, Asim Khan.

These operations are expected to generate about five to 10 construction jobs “in the short term”, Khan told commission members.

SUR contracts with other companies to produce and package the drink, he said.

The city council’s zoning, neighborhood and development committee is due to consider the proposal at its June 14 meeting.

SUR sells its drinks under the ZYN brand in 7,000 stores nationwide.

Milwaukee-area stores that sell the drink include Costco, Meijer, Festival Foods and Outpost Natural Foods, Khan said.

The Khan brothers grew up in Pakistan and moved to the United States in the mid-1980s. Both moved to Milwaukee to attend Marquette University.

Each spent around 20 years working in finance, investment banking and private equity before launching SUR in 2017.

The company purchased the 32,500-square-foot Menomonee Valley building in September for $440,000, according to city appraisal records.
